is the difference between scholarships and Tuition Awards?
“Scholarships” are cash and can be used for anything while “Tuition

2. How do I find scholarships?
*Use the Scholarships web site at http://www.financialaid.arizona.edu/scholarships/.
*Check with the department of your major. Many departments have funds for full
or partial tuition waivers or other scholarship funds not awarded by Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
* Contact local organizations, churches, or civic groups you belong to. Also
ask your employer or your parent’s employer

3. How do I apply
for scholarships?
For UA scholarships, you will automatically be considered when you apply
for admissions. Other scholarships can be found at http://www.financialaid.arizona.edu/scholarships/.
They have various deadlines and application processes. Please read the

4. I am an Arizona
high school student. How do I apply for UA scholarships?
Just apply for acceptance at the UA. Early is better than late. Follow
up and be sure all your transcript and test materials are received by admissions.
Do a really good job on the application especially where any personal statements

5. Will you match the
amount offer by other schools?
UA has a very competitive scholarships program and offers are NOT negotiable. (top)
6. When are students
with scholarships reviewed for satisfactory progress?
This is when we check to make sure they completed 24 units for students that received their scholarship at the 2008-2009 school year or earlier, and 30 units for students who received a Scholarship after the 2008-2009 school year and have a 3.0 GPA. If satisfactory progress is made, the scholarship
will automatically be renewed. If
you did NOT meet your unit or GPA requirement, you will lose your scholarship.
However, once you meet the requirements again, you can notify Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid and your scholarship will be reinstated. (top)
7. What is a Scholarship
Appeal form and where do I get one?
All scholarship recipients have the right to appeal if they do not meet satisfactory
progress. However, only students with extenuating circumstances (ex.
Death in the family) will be approved. A hard course load is not considered

Deferment form and where do I get one?
Students who study abroad or do missionary work, can complete a deferment
form. Scholarships can be deferred for up to 2 semesters. Additional

9. I’m interested in Studying Abroad. Can my scholarship be used for these expenses?
Unfortunately, you will not be able to use your scholarship(s) during your time abroad unless you are participating in the National Student Exchange (NSE) program. For information on scholarships for use while studying abroad, you will want to contact the Office of Study Abroad and Student Exchange at http://studyabroad.arizona.edu/. You may also want to consider contacting outside scholarship sources for possible scholarship assistance. 10. Can my scholarship be used to pay for a summer session class?
Your scholarships are not applicable to any summer session or winter session. They are to be used only during the normal academic year, fall and spring semesters only. (top)
11. I have done really well at UA, but my program will actually take more than 8 semesters. Can my scholarship be extended?
Unfortunately, we do not extend scholarship offers. But since you have done so well, you should be able to qualify for other scholarships.
